Hammacher Schlemmer is certainly no stranger to providing pages full of unique and often fun gadgets to those of us so inclined. Which is why it’s no surprise to see this nifty little executive desktop toy gracing the pages of their online catalog. The Desktop Stirling Engine uses the heat from the little alcohol burner on the right to heat/cool the gas inside the tubes, mimicing on a small scale the original 1816 invention by the Revereng Dr. Stirling. What’s funny is that the Stirling Engine was designed to create a safer alternative to steam engines, yet if your desk is anything like my desk, an open flame on the desk is the last thing you’ll call safe. Yours for the low, low price of just $380-ish.
