Level 5 - Offshore Rig Text Version This walkthru is text only and presented in its entirety. If you don't want to spoil later events in this level, don't scroll down any further than what you want to read. Click on a step number to go the graphical page for that step.
1 - Yeesh! What's that dull, painful sensation? Ah yes, the monkey wrench to the back of the head. But Lara's vision begins to clear as she awakes from her thug-induced sleep. 2 - Look over Lara's shoulder as she sits up…there's the plane she rode in on. That glass behind her is too tough to smash through with a roll. Maybe she can shoot it out? 3 - Uh oh! A check to the old weapons inventory reveals…nothing! Lara is without weapons and ammo. Not a good thing. Alright…this time she's really gotta rely on her brains. Time to get to work… 4 - Turn around so Lara is facing the crates. The brighter one is not moveable, but the more dull one to the left is… 5 - Pull it back next to the bright crate. When you do this, you reveal another moveable crate that was behind the crate you're moving and the bright crate. Once you pull this crate back, move around to the other side and push it once more, so it's against the wall. 6 - Pull the second moveable crate out towards the glass wall, then push it next to the first moveable crate. 7 - Run to the back of the room and down the hall to the left. Find yet another moveable crate and pull it back three times. You've created a convenient pathway from the back hall to the front of the room. 8 - Go down the back hallway again and turn right into another short hallway. Get ready to run…when you pull the switch, the door to the room Lara's trapped in will open for a short time. Also, when you pull the switch, the game will switch views to show you a couple of thugs coming after Lara. Use the trick of hitting the Look button after pulling the switch to get the camera back on Lara. 9 - Turn around, run down the hall, turn to the left, then to the right to run through the pathway you made by moving the crates. Run towards the glass wall at the front of the room, then turn right to head towards the door. 10 - Run out the door and head towards the water in the hangar. 11 - Dive in and swim forward until you see a big fan ahead. Veer to the left before you get to the barrels (they represent the threshold of the fan's suction power) and stay to the left of the fan as you swim toward the far wall. 12 - There's a lever on the wall. Pull it to open the door in the wall on the other side of the fan, then turn around and swim back the other direction, making sure not to swim into the fan's pull. 13 - After you pass the barrels, turn left and swim towards the wall. Pop up to the surface to get some air. 14 - Dive back into the water, hugging the wall to the right of the fan, and swim down and into the doorway you opened. 15 - Follow the tunnel until you come to a small chamber where you can surface again for some air, which you should do right away. 16 - Dive back down into the water, and pull the switch below the tunnel you came out of. This opens a trap door back near the beginning of the tunnel that leads to the Jade Dragon Statue. 17 - Swim down the tunnel and go down through the trap door you just opened.
19 - Go back into the main tunnel and go to the right, exiting near the big fan. Be sure to go straight up once you get out, again, so that you don't get pulled into the fan. Swim up to the surface and take a breath. 20 - Turn around, dive back down, and go all the way back through the tunnel to the small chamber. 21 - Climb up into the hallway and start running! 22 - The hallway leads out into the hangar. Follow the walkway you're on, making sure to jump over the gap in the walkway. 23 - Drop off the end of the second walkway and push the button that opens a hatch in the bottom of the plane. 24 - Whip around and run off the pier into the water. 25 - Swim under the plane and up into the hatch you opened. 26 - Climb up into the plane's cargo hold and run toward the back of the plane where you see a button on the central wall. 27 - Push the button, which shuts off the plane's propellers. Uh, good thing none of the guards noticed this little stunt, huh? 28 - Drop out of the cargo hold back into the water, and make your way toward the wall to the right of the big fan…stay behind those barrels! 29 - Get a breath of air, then swim back through the tunnel AGAIN and pull yourself up into the hallway that leads to the hangar walkways. 30 - Jump across to the second walkway, then quickly turn left and drop down to the pier. Walk up to the edge of the pier, directly in front of the plane's prop, then take a step backwards and do a running grab jump up onto the prop. This jump is sorta weird in that Lara grabs and pulls up *behind* the prop itself. 31 - Pull yourself up, then turn to the left and run onto the fuselage of the plane. 32 - Run toward the rear of the plane along the fuselage, and a trap door will fall out from under you, dropping Lara into the aft cargo compartment. 33 - Ah! Your trusty old pistols are just sitting there, waiting to be placed back at Lara's sides, where they belong. 34 - Turn around and climb up the ladder back onto the top of the plane. 35 - Dive into the water and head back toward the corner of the hanger you started in. Lara can climb up onto the floor outside of the glass room. 36 - As soon as Lara begins to climb up, a thug will appear to try to kill her. A lot. Put him out of his misery ASAP, and then kill his friend who comes to join the party. 37 - The second guy has a Yellow Pass Card that Lara needs. 38 - Run into the room that the guards came from and veer around to the left of the ramp so that you don't have to deal with rolling barrels. Go up the stairs at the bafck of the room. 39 - Use the Yellow Pass Card in the card reader on the wall around the corner. 40 - Turn right and run through the door you just opened. 41 - Dead ahead is the Alarm Cutoff Switch. Push it so that you don't have to hear that annoying alarm anymore! Now turn to the right… 42 - …and head up the stairs. 43 - At the end of the hallway is a little room with a hatch door. Turn, baby, turn…the wheel on the door, that is. 44 - When the door opens you're immediately attacked by a rude guy who obviously doesn't know how to treat a lady. The only way to teach him manners is to shoot him. 45 - Run into the next room and waste the guy that comes down the ramp. 46 - Turn right and open another hatch door. 47 - Go through the door and kill another guard. He drops a Med Kit you'll want to pick up. Then get the get the harpoons and automatic pistol clips that are lying around the perimeter of the room. 48 - Run into the bunk room and head all the way to the back. 49 - Climb up into the top bunk at the end, on the left, where you'll find the harpoon gun and some more harpoons. 50 - Jump back down, and head towards the previous set of bunks. The bottom bunk now on your left holds the automatic pistols and more A.P. clips. 51 - Climb up onto the top of the first bunk in the room, on Lara's right, where you'll find a button on the wall. This button opens a trap door in the ceiling at the back of the room, but the door doesn't stay open forever, so you have to act quickly… 52 - Push the button, turn around, drop to the floor and run towards the back of the room. You can see the trap door hanging down from here. 53 - At the very back of the room, turn right and climb up to the top bunk. Whip around and do a forward jump up to grab the ledge that the trap door opens out of. 54 - Take a few steps forward and you'll see a long ramp that Lara will be sliding down in a minute. 55 - Turn Lara around and hop backwards so that Lara slides down the ramp in reverse. Hold the Action button so that you grab the ledge you fall off of at the end of the ramp. 56 - Climb down the ladder at the end of the ramp… 57 - …and find yourself in a room with a bunch of flames. You need to get up the other ladder, but the flames are in the way - somehow you'll need to get over them. 58 - Turn around and you'll see two moveable crates in the wall. Pull out the crate on the right, then push it to the right. 59 - Next, pull out the crate on the left. Run around to the back of the crate and push it up against the platform the flames are on. 60 - Pull the crate over once so that it lines up with the ladder behind the flames.. 61 - Do a running jump over the flames and grab ahold of the ladder and climb up. 62 - At the top of the ladder, you'll find yourself in a narrow hallway. Follow it back… 63 - …and around to the right where a nasty soldier attacks you. Take him out. 64 - Grab the Red Pass Card he drops, then move forward - but don't go up the stairs yet! 65 - At the base of the stairs is a ladder on the left wall. Climb up the ladder. 66 - At the top of the ladder, you'll find yourself outside, on the top of the Offshore Rig. Turn around…
68 - Climb back down and make your way up the stairs. 69 - At the top of the stairs you'll fall into the small chamber that leads into the hangar. And you thought you had seen the last of this room! Well, this is finally the last time you'll be in here. 70 - Run down the walkway, jump across to the second walkway and shoot out one of the windows to get inside (or do a roll through one of them). 71 - Run through the Yellow Pass Card door, and this time, go up the stairs to the left of the Alarm Cutoff Switch. 72 - At the top of the stairs you'll find a mean dog and his mean owner. You know what to do… 73 - Now…without going too far into the next room, take a few steps in and look up the sloped hallway, where you can see some barrels that are just waiting to roll down at you. Let's do this the clever way. 74 - Walk into the room so that you're facing the right half of the sloped hallway. Walk up the slope just a bit so that the barrels tumble down towards you, then hop backwards and jump sideways to the right, out of harm's way. 75 - Run up the hallway to the door at the back, left corner. 76 - Use the Red Pass Card to open the door here. 77 - Once the door opens, Lara will have her hands full for a minute as she has to snuff out a trio of armed guards. 78 - Jump across to ledge with the metal grate floor. Grab the shotgun shells the guard dropped when you dropped him, and head back to the corner behind the pipes. 79 - Push the crate back into the corner. 80 - Turn around, run off the ledge and climb up onto the other ledge into that corner of the room, where you can now see the crate you just pushed back. 81 - Pull the crate out once, then drop down and climb back up to where you originally pushed the crate. 82 - Finally, push the crate out onto the end of the ledge from behind. 83 - Now, climb up onto the ledge across from the crate you've been moving around and do a running grab jump up onto it. 84 - Position Lara as she is in this picture…facing the left end of the ledge that leads up into the tunnel. At this angle, she'll still be able to grab the ledge and pull herself up. 85 - See? Told you so! Pull yourself up and draw your weapons, then start running down the hall. 86 - The hallway turns to the right, where a soldier starts heading towards you with a big weapon. 87 - After killing the soldier, head down into the station's control room. There's another card reader here for a Green Pass Card, but since you don’t have it yet, pull the switch on the opposite wall that shifts the water in the containment pools from one to the other. 88 - Run back up the hallway, into the room where you moved the crate around and go to the left, where you can now swim across the filled pool. Notice the ramp that leads up behind the central machine cluster? That's where you're going. 89 - You need to do a couple of standing forward jumps to get up behind the central machine cluster. 90 - Throw the switch, which opens a trap door in the floor of the control room. 91 - Dive back into the water and head back up to the tunnel leading to the control room. 92 - Once in the control room, you should be able to spot the trap door you just opened. 93 - Jump down and you'll see another long ramp that you get to slide down…whee! 94 - At the bottom of the ramp, you're in a giant room with huge pillars that the whole Offshore Rig rests on. 95 - Walk over to the right, and you can see the Gold Dragon Statue down on one of the platforms far below. There are also two harpoon-armed divers in the water. 96 - Turn around and go down to the left end of the catwalk. Do a couple of running grab jumps back and forth between this catwalk and the next, to draw the harpoon guys closer. You should be able to take out one or both of them from up here. But if not… 97 - Break out the harpoon gun for the first time in the game. This is the only weapon that can be used underwater. 98 - It takes four harpoons to kill another person. The harpoon gun is a bit weird in that sometimes it doesn't look like it's shooting in the right direction, or sometimes not at all, but as long as you hear the harpoon gun sound and your enemy is in sight, you should be ok.
100 - Swim to the pillar in the opposite corner of the pillar room and jump up onto the ladder on the wall. 101 - At the top of the ladder, drop off onto a catwalk, then jump across to the next catwalk and off a bad guy who's shooting at you. 102 - "Ah ha!" Lara says as she picks up the shotgun he dropped. 103 - Take a few more steps, get the right angle, and you can shoot the next guard all the way from here! 104 - Now make a couple of jumps to where the guy was you just picked off. 105 - And from here, take out the next guy. This is almost easy! 106 - You need to jump diagonally across to the next catwalk. Notice the opening in the wall above the catwalk you're about to jump to? You'll be going there in a couple of minutes. 107 - For now, though, go past it, doing another diagonal jump onto the next catwalk. 108 - The next inter-catwalk jump is the trickiest. Line Lara up as shown here, so that her left shoulder is lined up with the edge of the wall. From here, a forward jump will land her on the final catwalk. 109 - Shoot through the glass on the wall. 110 - Climb into the alcove, setting off another alarm, and grab the Green Pass Card. 111 - Go back the way you just came, until you get back to that opening in the wall. 112 - Pull yourself up into the opening… 113 - …and run up the long, sloping corridor. 114 - Eventually, you'll come to a ladder you need to climb. 115 - And then you'll drop into the hallway that leads to the control room, where another guard has mysteriously appeared. 116 - Now you can use the Green Pass Card in the card reader, which opens a door out into the containment pool room. 117 - Before you go through the door, turn around and flip the switch again, flooding the second pool. 118 - Run out into the containment pool room and turn toward the left. 119 - Look into the pool you just re-flooded and spot the passage on the far wall. 120 - Swim down through the tunnel until you find… 121 - A lever on the wall. Pull it to open the metal grate here. 122 - Go through the grate, and climb out into the stairway, finishing the level. |
