Level 7 - 40 Fathoms Text Version This walkthru is text only and presented in its entirety. If you don't want to spoil later events in this level, don't scroll down any further than what you want to read. Click on a step number to go the graphical page for that step.
1 - After watching the in-game movie and the flic, you find yourself underwater, presumably far below the Offshore Rig's Diving Area. The sub sinks to the ocean floor and…uh…you're running out of oxygen! Light a flare and turn to the right. 2 - On the ocean floor you'll spot a trail of garbage. Follow it off into the distance. 3 - Eventually, you'll come to the hull of a sunken ship. Head towards the corner, where a giant anchor is resting on the rusting hull. 4 - Swim down through the anchor hatch into the ship. 5 - Swim up to the surface for some air, then arm yourself with the harpoon gun. Two sharks will be coming for Lara any moment. Remember that it takes 8 harpoons to kill a shark. It's best to try to dive under a shark, then turn around and get behind it. 6 - Grab a breath of air, then dive down and swim through the opening into the next chamber. 7 - Swim through the next two chambers… 8 - …until you find a big lever on the wall in the back left corner of the last chamber. This opens a hatch in the floor. 9 - Turn around and swim down through the hatch. 10 - Swim into the crate room and go up for some air. 11 - Swim around the left side of the crates, all the way around the back and through the hole in the wall. 12 - Climb up out of the water and head down the hallway. 13 - Pull the big switch at the end of the hall and the water gets drained out of the crate room. 14 - Run back out of the hallway and climb onto the first tall crate you come to in the crate room. Jump across to the other tall crate. 15 - Climb up into the high opening. 16 - Turn around and do a backwards grab jump down onto the ledge to draw out the thug. Climb back up, draw your pistols and start shooting. 17 - As you make your way to the corpse to grab the shotgun shells he was carrying, avoid the four dark panels in the center of the room.
19 - Now walk over to the edge of the dark panels and position Lara so that she's looking diagonally over the panels to the next closest side. 20 - Jump across the corner of the dark panels, triggering them to open. 21 - Draw your guns and begin shooting at the two thugs down below. It may take a minute or two, but you can kill both of them from up here, where it's safe. 22 - Hang down from the floor over the highest crate below, and drop into the lower room. 23 - Stand on the bright crate near the center of the room and do a running grab jump to the tall, flat crate against the wall. 24 - Turn left and do a running grab jump across to the hallway. 25 - Just inside the hallway, turn left around the corner and pull the switch on the wall. It's very difficult to see the switch because both it and the wall are dark. 26 - Run down the hall, jumping over the pipes that span the width of the hallway. 27 - Turn left at the end of the hall and climb up into the doorway you just opened with the switch. 28 - Arm the harpoon gun and jump into the water. Shoot the barracudas that come at you. Be sure to pop back up and get some air if you need to. 29 - Swim out into the cave and take out the third barracuda and the shark.
31 - Swim back into the tunnel, climb out of the water and return to the first hallway, then veer left into the dark corridor. 32 - Halfway through the dark corridor is a little compartment where you jog to the right a bit. When you get there, turn around… 33 - …and climb up the ladder on the wall. 34 - Pull the big switch on the wall and climb back down. 35 - Continue through the dark corridor and turn to the right. After a few steps you'll see a doorway on the left. Look down there. There are four flames and two switches on the wall. Get ready for a fun timing puzzle. 36 - Turn right away from the flame hallway, jump over the pipe and go around the corner to the right. 37 - At the end of the hall, jump over the half wall and into the small room. The switch on the wall will shut off the first two flames in the flame hallway, but only for a short time. Throw the switch, then hit Look when the camera angle changes (this will get the camera back on Lara). Run and jump over the half wall and begin running towards the flame hallway. 38 - Don't forget to jump over the pipe as you round the corner before the flame hallway. Run in and throw the big switch in the flame hallway. This opens another door you have to go to. 39 - Run out of the flame hallway before the flames come back on and head back through the dark corridor. 40 - Turn right out of the dark corridor, and veer left around the corner into the short hallway. 41 - Jump over the half wall, through the hatch you opened with the switch in the flame room. This hatch does not close, so you don't need to be rushing at the moment. 42 - Walk up to the switch, save your game and take a deep breath. Throw the switch, use the Look trick to get the camera back on Lara and jump over the half wall into the hallway. 43 - Run through the dark corridor and turn right, jumping over the pipe, and head back to the original switch room. Jump over the half wall into the room, throw the switch, (use the Look trick for the camera), then run over to the flame hallway, where all the flames are now out (if you have been quick enough). 44 - At the end of the flame hallway is a big switch that opens the hatch here. Throw it and walk through the hatch. 45 - Now that you've finished that hairy timing puzzle, get ready for another (yes, we suggest you save your game again). Draw your pistols and jump into the water and take out the barracuda that swims towards you. 46 - Swim up through the hole in the ceiling (this hatch closes behind you) and begin swimming up through the two chambers. 47 - In the top chamber, pull the big lever on the wall, use the Look trick and swim back down through both chambers. 48 - Down at the bottom, swim through the door you opened…
50 - Turn around out of the alcove and pull the big lever, use the Look trick, then turn around and begin swimming back up through the chambers. 51 - A couple of barracudas will bother you as you're swimming up to the top where you can get some much-needed air, thanks to the hatch you just opened - don't bother with the barracudas, as you don't have time. 52 - Climb out of the water (you can draw your pistols and shoot the barracudas if you want), and oh yeah, you might want to save your game again, just so you don't have to go through all that again should you run into some trouble ahead. 53 - Follow the hallway before you until you come to the end where there's a hole in the floor. Do a backwards grab jump and hang down from the floor. 54 - Drop down and you'll begin to slide down the hill you're on. 55 - Run over to a second hole in the floor and do another hang-drop down… 56 - …where you'll slide down another hill. 57 - Run to the back of the room where you can see the high opening in the wall. 58 - Run around to the back of the dirt mound and pull the crate out twice. Climb on top and climb up into the opening. 59 - Pull the switch in the back corner and hold on…pulling this switch causes the whole place to shake and rock, as dirt fills up a bunch of the rooms you were just in. 60 - Run out into the room you were just in. Notice that there are two openings in the ceiling on the left side of the room, and a big, dark hatch that's open further down. Walk up against the wall underneath the first of the two openings on the left. 61 - Turn around and do a standing grab jump up into the room above. 62 - Run up the hill along the right side…you will have to jump up a couple of steeply sloped rocks…until you can't go any further. Stand out on the flat rock and face the next flat rock towards the hole in the ceiling. 63 - Do a running jump diagonally across to the next flat rock. 64 - Climb up the through the hole in the ceiling and pull the big switch in that room. You hear another part of the level being flooded when you pull the switch. 65 - Drop back down into the room below and slide down the dirt pile, then drop down another level to the room with the big, dark hatch. 66 - Climb up into the second opening in the ceiling on the left. 67 - There's an opening high up in the wall that you need to get to, so run around the left side of the room, in between the wall and the dirt pile. 68 - Climb up into the opening… 69 - …and run to the back of the room where you need to flip one more switch. 70 - Run out of the switch room, slide down the dirt pile, and drop back down into the room with the big, dark hatch. Run over near the hatch and jump over against the wall where there is now an opening in the wall. 71 - Climb up into the opening and walk through the tunnel. 72 - Get out the harpoon gun and jump into the water. Swim down in front of the tunnel opening and shoot the frogman that appears. Go back up to the surface and get some air. 73 - Swim back down into the tunnel… 74 - …and follow it until it ends. Quickly climb up and arm yourself with the M-16. There are two bad guys here and one of them starts blasting you with a shotgun, so the M-16 is really helpful to take them out quickly. 75 - Collect the goodies from the dead guys and then get the harpoons lying on the floor. 76 - Go across the room and throw the big switch to open the door. 77 - Walk through the door and take a few steps down the hallway to finish the level. |
