We start out this episode with some listener mail etc. Thanks!

In this episode, Tony talks about ModNation Racers and Lou talks about things he likes so far in the Cataclysm Beta. Miscellaneous video game news follows.

In TV (~33:10), Tony talks a little about Top Chef with Lou, and moves on to the Emmys. Lou talks a bit about House Hunters International again, as well as Supernatural. Random TV news tidbits after that.

In Movies (~53:05), Tony saw Killshot and Lou saw Piranha 3D. For those of you who aren’t sure what that is, it’s deadly piranha fish. In 3D. Miscellaneous movie news follows.

In the Mash-Up segment (~1:16:00) the news this week includes:

LG’s new 30” 3D OLED TV is only $9k.

Apple released new iPods, including a new shuffle and Nano. The Nano was the big hit, as it’s a little square with a full multi-touch screen. They also discontinued the iPod Classic. Oops. Oh, and iTunes 10 is out.

And Apple’s new Game Center (their gaming connection network) isn’t compatible with the first gen iPod Touch or the original iPhone or iPhone 3G.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab, a 7” tablet computer running Android that has both 3G and Wi-Fi N as well as both front- and rear-facing cameras.

And now Archos has unveiled a 10.1” tablet running Android, for just $300.

Nikon’s new Coolpix S8100 point & shoot digital camera will also shoot 1080p video…for just $299.

TomTom’s new Go Live 1000 and Go Live 1005 GPS units go on sale in Europe soon, featuring capacitive touchscreens and a year of free “HD Traffic”. $385 and $460 respectively (the 1005 has a bigger, 5” screen).

Seiko will be releasing an “active-matrix” e-ink watch by the end of the year. It looks vaguely similar to the old metal calculator watches Seiko used to make and it looks like it’ll do some neat tricks. Like play card games. It gets its time from the nearest atomic clock and has a bunch of other features that sound promising. No price yet.

The Sony Walkman has outsold the iPod in Japan for the first time, taking the lead in sales for the month of August.

NASA is readying Solar Probe Plus, which will be launched into the sun’s atmosphere.

Apple showed off the new Apple TV, but Amazon fired back with 99 cent unlimited streaming: Pay 99 cents for something you want to watch, and you can watch it “forever”. Apple TV requires you to pay 99 cents each time you want to watch the thing (or at least for 24 hours once you start watching it).

Acer has unveiled the Aspire Revo: A dual-core Atom processor, next-gen nVidia Ion graphics, 1080p video playback, a 500GB hard drive, four USB 2.0 ports, 4GB of DDR3 memory, VGA and HDMI outputs, Wi-Fi b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet and a mini PCIe slot…all in a tiny package that costs just $530.

Philips has released another wacky, super-wide TV: This time it’s 3D. The Philips 21:9 3D TV has an aspect ratio like Cinemascope (2.3:1), which means that even the best, most exciting, widest movies would be full-screen and not letterboxed.

Rumor: Apple is working on a redesigned antenna for the iPhone 4.

Nokia’s N8, sporting a fancy new Symbian3 OS, will hit at the end of September here in the U.S., and in the U.K. right after that.

Scientists at MIT have discovered molecules that spontaneously assemble themselves into a pattern that can turn light into electricity. Yes, these are self-creating solar panels.

As always, the end of the episode is when Tony & Lou reveal their votes for this week’s Best & Worst entertainment moments.

The pause.com Entertainment Podcast is hosted by long-time friends Tony Incopero and Lou Zucaro. Join them as they discuss all sorts of fun things in the world of entertainment, gaming, gadgets, cars and more with a healthy dose of their sense of humor.

We start out this episode with some listener mail etc.

In this episode, Tony talks about Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on the Xbox 360. Lou started playing the Cataclysm Beta. Miscellaneous video game news follows.

In TV (~38:35), Tony talks a little about Top Chef with Lou (and a very tiny bit about The Big C), who then follows up with Supernatural and both of the guys talk about House Hunters International. Random TV news tidbits after that.

In Movies (~49:35), Tony saw Big Fan and Lou saw Hot Tub Time Machine. Miscellaneous movie news follows.

In the Mash-Up segment (~1:08:40) the news this week includes:

Best Buy is planning a big influx of tablet devices for the holiday season, although no mention of specific models has been made yet. But in addition to the iPad, expect models running both Android and Windows 7 from companies like HP, Asus, LG and a couple others

Nobel Prizewinner Robert Richardson believes that we will run out of helium in 25 years, which is bad. It’s used as a cooling source and in the manufacture of things like LCD screens. And of course, to fill balloons and to let people talk like chipmunks

Fujifilm’s FinePix W3 is a point & shoot camera that’ll capture HD video in 3D

Spanair flight 5022 crashed just after takeoff from Madrid in 2008. Now investigators are saying that a ground-based system that detects trouble in airplanes that would have prevented the plane from taking off under normal circumstances was, in fact, infected with 3 trojan-type viruses and they prevented the system from doing its job. The investigation is still ongoing

People magazine will be the first title to be offered free on the iPad to print subscribers

A problem with Samsung Blu-ray players recently undergoing a firmware update is causing them not to play Warner or Universal movies. The 2.09 update causes those titles to lock up after displaying the title image

Sanyo’s VPC-PD2BK video camera is about $170, about the same form factor as a Flip, but shoots 1080p video at 30fps with stereo audio, has a flash, and will shoot 10MP stills

Apple is testing iOS 4.1 on an unknown gadget referred to internally as having ID 20547

Nikon’s D3100 is the first DSLR that’ll shoot 1080p video with autofocus, and it’s just $700

LG will show off a 31” OLED TV at the IFA electronics show next month

Apple’s in more trouble over its hyper-sensitive submersion sensor in the iPhone…there’s already a class action lawsuit against them, filed in California, by a woman who never had any liquid damage to her iPhone, but was told her warranty was voided because the sensor was triggered by ambient humidity. And now in some parts of Asia, people are having the same trouble

A Google tablet is slated (har har) to launch on Verizon on November 26th

The Beta of IE9 will launch on September 15th

Finally, Tomica will relaunch diecast toys here in the U.S., together with some pretty cool playsets to go with them

In TV (~10:10) The guys talk about Heroes, Lou talks about Chuck and the guys talk The Office, Lost and (briefly) Top Chef before getting into American Idol and the Top 36 for season 8.

In Movies (~35:55), Tony talks about having seen The Reader (for which Kate Winslet has been nominated as Best Actress) and goes over his predictions for Oscar wins.

Season 5 of Top Chef has been pretty great…lots of what’s looked like good food, without some of the annoying drama of previous seasons. Sure, there’s the pseudo-romance between Hosea and Leah, but that’s over, now that Leah’s been sent packing her knives. Yes, the final four are Fabio, Stefan, Carla and Hosea. If you’d asked me a month ago, I would have guessed Stefan and Hosea, but I think my other two picks would have been Leah and Jamie.

Not that Fabio and Carla haven’t made some interesting dishes, but Fabio, while always making us laugh, has usually ended up in the middle of the pack, and big-haired, crazy-eyed Carla was such a late bloomer.

Major props to Fabio for winning the elimination challenge with a broken finger…man, that looked nasty. Hopefully we’ll find out how exactly that happened at some point.

Now it’s off to New Orleans…at this point it’s anybody’s game. SuperSmug Stefan impresses a lot of the time, but when he gets overconfident, he usually chokes. Hosea’s been consistently strong, but his choices sometimes leave one half of the judges or the other cold, not to mention the technical issues that have come up from time to time. Carla’s simple, earthy approach has been wowing people the last few weeks especially, so it’ll be interesting to see how she navigates the local New Orleans cuisine that I’m sure will factor into the final challenges. And Fabio…well, I just hope whatever he cooks that he makes it count, and that he whips out at least one more monkey ass before all is said and done.
