In my dream home, there is an arcade. And in that arcade, there will be a Pac-Man machine: The game so many of us became addicted to while listening to bad ’80s rock in mostly darkened arcades.

But unlike those spartanly-decorated amusement parlors of yore, my dream home arcade will definitely have some of these gorgeously simple Poufman seating pairs. Available in Black, Bordeaux or Turtledove (each one able to be topped / sided with the featured color while the other is White), Poufman includes both “round” (the Pac-Man one) and “cube” versions. Fit them together. And then fit those together with more sets for some geometrically entrancing seating layouts.

No word on pricing yet, but I can pretty much guarantee it’ll be more than a quarter.

UPDATE: The set (round and cube) are quoted at €998 so figure about $1,500 plus shipping.

Riggs Product Group is selling a Pininfarina-designed ergonomic office chair for the hefty price of about $3k (currently on sale for just $2k!), no doubt reached in part by what it must have cost them to get Pininfarina to do the design. While the chairs do look cool, the fact that they have wheels does not, unfortunately, make them as fast as the Ferraris or Maseratis from which the chairs aped their color schemes. Nor are they likely to cause a rash of lowball pricing on used Aerons on eBay. But if you want to plant your keister on something much more unique than an Aeron or Freedom Chair, the Xten just might be for you.

If any of you out there has one of these, fire off a pic of you sitting in it and tell us how you like it!

In my post on the not-to-be-released-soon TRON 2, I mentioned how kids are convinced that their toys come alive at night. Well, so must Joel Green, who thunk up and built this fabulous lounge chair. Not only does it look like it might come alive at night, but that it just might stay that way all day long. More info and a few questions of the piece’s designer after the clicky thingie…

At $7,500 it’s not cheap, but it is definitely cool. And swanky. Whenever I see something this interesting, I like to pose a few questions to the designer:

Lou Zucaro, pause.com: What was your inspiration for this? I read what you wrote about the “living roadster” but how’d you come to that idea?

Joel Green, Designer: The inspiration for this piece came from looking at the body mechanics of different insects, reptiles and mammels. I wanted to start incorporating attributes such as muscle tone, exo-skeleton and the draping of skin over moving parts into a form language that would translate to functional objects. As I took these components and stretched them to make the lounge it started looking more and more like a Bugatti roadster. But my intent was to animate the lounge to look like it was crawling away.

LZ: How long does it take to make?

JG: The origional took about six weeks to produce. I have plans and people in place ready to reproduce a very limited run of the original which I expect to take around the same amount of time at least at first.

LZ: Would you make it in other colors for customers or just as shown?

JG: I would make it in any color, customer buys the fabric.

LZ: Has the living lounge chair ever attacked anybody or eaten small pets?

JG: The Living Lounge’s main prey is small children, yet my neighbors dog has been missing for some time.

So there ya have it, folks. Get those fabric swatches ready, keep the kids close and kennel the dogs. Then head on over to Joel’s website and order yours now before it gets away!
