XSEED Uses Nintendo DS to Go Back in Time

Retrogame Challenge by XSEED

XSEED announced today their upcoming Nintendo DS title Retrogame Challenge, in which players must defeat the evil Game Master Arino by completing a series of challenges in (ficticious) retro games such as Cosmic Gate (think Galaxian), Haggle Man (a platformer), Rally King (driving game), Star Prince (like Galaga) and Guadia Quest (an 8-bit style RPG). Tron 2.0 Officially Official

TRON 2.0 (TR2N) hotties Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett

After the Comic-Con TRON 2.0 teaser leaked out onto the Net, we contacted reps for Disney who said that there was no official word yet as to whether or not the movie would get made, and that they had no plans to ever show that teaser again. Of course that seemed a bit odd given that the teaser, which they called a technology demonstration, had a minute or two of effects (not cheap) and, you know, Jeff Bridges.

Well, Hollywood Reporter has announced that TRON 2.0 aka TR2N has its first two cast members attached, in the form of Olivia Wilde (House) and Beau Garrett (Made of Honor, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer).

No official word on Bridges yet, although we’ll keep our fingers crossed that a TRON 2.0 payday would be at least as enticing to him as a TRON 2.0 technology demonstration payday.

T3’s 01 Phone Update Revealed…Looking Even Better!

As you know, we jumped on the story of T3’s “secret” 01 Phone project when they first posted a mysterious entry about it a few months back. And we were delighted to learn that they actually had a desire to produce it, working with design firm The Alloy, and asking interested parties to sign a petition to get it made for real. So it was a pleasure to see the latest incarnation of it, sans laser-keyboard (awww) but with an even better solution: A slide-out, contextual keyboard with a rubberized film giving the keyboard the ability to transform for any particular use, and provide some tactility…something a certain telephony device that rhymes with schmeyephone is lacking. Pop Sci Takes a Deeper Look at the Terrafugia Transition

Terrafugia Transition drivable plane

Terrafugia - and Popular Science - are quick to point out that the Transition isn’t a flying car. It’s a roadable aircraft. And while not nearly as cool looking as Moller’s SkyCar, the Transition will supposedly ACTUALLY be available next year for the low, low, LOW price of just $194,000. Mercury Photographed Up Close, Does Amazing Impersonation of Moon

Image from NASA's Messenger Mercury Probe

NASA’s Messenger spacecraft started taking detailed pictures of the surface of Mercury recently from an altitude of just 125 miles and captured a boatload of pretty great photos, including this one. Small, hot, and looking remarkably similar to the Moon, Mercury makes for some nifty pictures, although I won’t deny that I’m disappointed that there aren’t scary volcanoes spewing forth lava onto the domain of fire elementals. It’s not just me, is it?

Nakheel Tower Makes Burj Dubai Cry

Nakheel Tower will be a kilometer tall

As if the 800m-tall Burj Dubai wasn’t tall enough, developer Nakheel has announced plans for an inner-city harbour development project, the centerpiece of which would be a building over a full kilometer in height.

A spokesman for Nakheel - the same company responsible for The World - cautiously commented on the project, according to the Daily Telegraph, by stating it would be over a kilometer tall, and that the whole project, comprising some 40 skyscrapers, would ultimately house 55,000 people and be workday home to another 45,000.

The project is set to take about 10 years to complete at a cost of “billions of dollars.” It seems like the next ridiculously-tall building milestone will be an entire mile. And the way things are going, that one will be in Dubai, too.

(you can thank me later for not making a joke about how, for Nakheel, The World is not enough)

Depression, Schmepression: Alfa Sells Out 8C in U.S.

While plenty of people are panicking about the tumbling stock market and general financial / economic situation here and abroad, Alfa Romeo is not one of those people.

Maserati dealers in the U.S. have begun taking orders for Alfa’s ridiculously hot 8C Competizione. And have stopped taking orders, since they’re all already spoken for. Damn.

Sonic Blast from the Central-American Past

Mexico Minigod by Marka27

Feeling like your PMP is pumping out the jams in a manner that’s a bit too contemporary? Or a bit too, you know, boring? Then check out the Mexico Minigod vinyl speaker by marka27. A collectible vinyl figure that just happens to have a speaker, amp (battery- or AC-powered) and 3.5mm headphone jack, the Mexico Minigod is a hip, stylish way to show off the fact that you’re both hip and stylish. And that you like music. And quasi-Mayan design. And stuff made from the same material as those squishy baby doll heads. About $110 from various places online, including Tainted Visions.

Tameer Makes Keeping Up with the Joneses Impossible

The 33-story-high LED will grace Tameer's Podium commercial building

Remember your first flat-panel TV? You thought you were the shiznit with that bad-boy, until some guy a couple doors down got one bigger, thinner and high-definitionier than yours. Which kinda ticked you off. Then, around Thanksgiving, you one-upped him. And the battle of the bigscreen LEDs continues between you and your neighbor to this day.

Well, if you lived in Dubai, you’d certainly have your work cut out for you, as Tameer Holding has unveiled their plans for the Podium commercial building development, complete with a 33-story-high LED display, set off from one side of the building on a giant, curved panel.

When complete, it will be the world’s largest LED display, and even will allow natural light from outdoors to permeate into the windows on that side of the building. The Podium’s LED facade will be visible from about a mile away. Which is crazy cool.

And although it kinda sucks that somebody will have an LED display THAT big, and it’s not you, at least you can stop worrying about how to afford Panasonic’s 150-inch HD monster. Cuz, really, what’s the point now?

LEGO Announces 10193 Medieval Market Village for 2009, Castle Fans Weep with Joy

Ahhhh, now THAT is a cool castle set! Ok, sure, it doesn’t have a baseplate unifying the set. And LEGO’s box art obnoxiously includes a bushel of hay for that there horsie to eat, but come ON this set rocks! All sorts of details are throughout, with nice use of traditionally non-castle pieces (such as wheel wells as window / doorway arches). The buildings are hinged like Castle set buildings of yore and, as has been much discussed, there’s a whole frakkin’ LEGO turkey for your mini-figs to eat after a hard day’s work.

The set was revealed at BrickCon and will be available in January for about $100. How sweet it is…
