Not only has President Obama not yet fixed the economy (yes, I’m kidding), but now he’s messing with our HDTV by promoting and agreeing to a bill, authored by Senate Commerce Committe Chairman Jay Rockefellar, to push back the DTV transition date from February 17th to June 12th.

I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. If you remember, the transition was originally supposed to happen in 2006, and was delayed THREE YEARS to this February.  Now they want to wait another bunch-o-months to let people “get ready”. Part of the problem stems from the flat-broke set-top box coupon program, which currently has a 2.6 million household waiting list, and the 6.5 million households that Nielsen reports aren’t quite ready.

Whatever. Those people (if that number is even correct) obviously haven’t turned on the old Zenith in ages anyway, or they’d have known that they had to do something about it! Do we really care that those people aren’t ready?

Feh.

UPDATE! Yes…so far, it’s a no go, as the House failed to pass it with a 2/3 majority…woot! February 17th DTV wonderfulness, here we come!
