LG Debuts 55″ LHX LED-Backlit LCD TV at CES

If the acronym bingo in the subject line hasn’t made you flee in terror, keep reading, because this is an interesting piece of tech from LG. Aside from being LED-backlit like a few other high-end LCD TVs these days, the LHX is also just under an inch thin, thanks to LG removing the tuner components, which have been sent off to live in a “media box” that sends the signal to the LHX wirelessly. Personally, I’m not so crazy about the idea of yet another streaming signal doohicky, but the thinness of the LHX is definitely high up on the cool factor list. No word on pricing yet, but expect it to be somewhere around a kajillion dollars. Official specs after the clicky thingie…

Is the refresh rate really 240Hz?
I heard that the refresh rate specification was a mix of the 120hz LCD panel refresh AND a 120Hz refresh of the LED backlight….
thanks for your time.

It’s quite possible that it could be sneaky marketing (sorta like Dynamic Contrast Ratio) but it was presented as 240Hz refresh rate in all the materials we received.

Is there a secret to the LG Plasma TV? I set an LG 50PQ30 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV in my guestroom. And I have just determined that arresting the Menu buytton has a backdoor to it. Initially, it reveals the main menu slowly, then it closes the window and expands a password screen. Thing is, the password set on the TV is not the same as password used here. I’m curious, what does it mean?
