There are few things as fun in the automotive world as reveals of concept cars. Often they come with vast amounts of hope that the concepts will someday see the light of day, and usually with as few changes as possible.

Both Honda and Subaru have unveiled new concepts in advance of the Tokyo Motor Show, and they couldn’t be more different.

Honda’s EV-N is a tiny, retro, battery-powered car complete with a UX-3 tucked away in the passenger door.

Subaru’s Hybrid Tourer Concept, on the other hand, is a stunning, angular, contemporary design…something Subaru ain’t exactly famous for. The HTC uses three powerplants: A gas boxer engine and two electric motors split up the workload under different driving conditions to maximize efficiency and power. Sadly, it’s almost guaranteed that those massive, dual-row gullwing doors will never see the light of day. Very sadly.

Nicely done on both fronts!
