Windows 7 Release Date Set for October 22

So there it is, peeps. The “general availability” date (the date when you can walk into a store and buy a copy of one of Windows 7’s six versions) has been announced as October 22nd. Of this year (just to clarify).
It’s also expected that the final build of Windows 7 will be released to OEM’s around the end of July, so you could theoretically buy a new computer with Win 7 on it in August.
One minor (or major) bummer is that each PC builder gets to decide if they’ll give away Win 7 upgrades to customers who buy a new PC with Vista on it close to the Win 7 release date for free, or if they’ll charge a fee for it.
Either way, Win 7 is very eagerly anticipated and, based on our usage of the Beta and RC, it’s pretty darn cool.

Agreed.
I threw a copy of 7 on an old PC we weren’t using and it’s amazingly stable and un-difficult. Vista was the reason i went OS X, but 7 might be a reason to keep it on our windows based PCs/laptops around the house.
Even with that release date, don’t we still get to keep the RC until April oh-ten?

Yep, the RC is actually good until about a year from now, although April is a more realistic date, since that’s when it’ll start reminding you that its life is almost over and you need to go out and buy a real license. And then it’ll shut down every two hours.
But yeah, Win 7 is pretty sweet. And its stability is amazing for a beta.
Also, I’d like to point out that, in my personal experience, the Win7 team is SERIOUSLY dedicated to making Win7 a great experience. I’ve had numerous personal contacts from key members of the Win7 dev team after submitting bugs and other issues…contact that’s gone way above and beyond anything I’ve seen from just about any other developer.
